November Simplicity

Image
How beautiful the month of November is in the Midwest. This photo, taken at Chain of Lakes State Park, captures the artistic brush of blues and browns painted by Mother Nature. The temperature on that day in November was a warm 70 degrees. Today is sunny and about 25 degrees. Equally beautiful with clear air and soft light and the same artist's palette of blues and greens and browns. Simplicity of form and color is the depth and beauty of November. I invite you to download a new piece of music called Mayan Fire. You will find this meditation of the new year and the new baktun to be life-giving for yourself as you bring in your own new year forces for success, happiness, peace. Here is the link: http://www.mayandream.com/samples/mayanfire.mp3. This link is also on my home page along with the link to the description for this music (just check out the blog right below this one). Today, November 15th, Daily OM is featuring my album A Celebration of Life and Love . I...

Music for the new Baktun Mayan Fire

Image
As a musician, it has been my privilege over the years to play many instruments and to create a lot of music. Never has it been such an honor, as when I play the instruments from the Mayan lands. These instruments talk to me. I have a close relationship with them. When I pick them up, I feel their vibration and their essence. When I begin to play them, my breath is their breath. It is sacred time that is Ancient/Future time. Many others from baktuns past have played these types of instruments. As I do now, the breath of sound is invoking the sacred, calling forth ritual, speaking with the unseen world. I remember that as a young child I began to play the piano and never needed to learn how to read notes. I just knew. This is the same ease and knowing. There is only the connection and relationship that brings unity and then sound. When I pick up a flute from Teotehuacan, it is with reverence and awe. This flute sound was heard in baktuns past....all the way b...

NEW MUSIC

Image
This afternoon I am at my work desk, listening to the music of Radiance and looking out at the beauty of a partly cloudy Autumn sky. The light is so gentle and the black tree branches against the grey sky rise up along with the red and orange blazing Autumn trees that still have their leaves. I love this time of year! Over the years I have written so much music that often it is not in my "audible" memory until I listen to it again and then I go.....oh yeah that music is part of me. Right this moment I am listening to the track called "compassion" and it feels SO good on my body and my spirit. It is like liquid love pouring over me. The goddess flute is blowing throughout this piece and I had forgotten how important that breath is to my own life journey. The goddess flute is ancient....it's a miracle that it ended up in my life and I treasure that miracle. There is a new piece of music that will be composed soon. The goddess flute, the other Mayan f...

When is a new photo a good idea?

Mayan Dream Productions is a sole-proprietorship which means that I am the company. Thus, I was being nagged by my inner world to get a new photo out there. The one I have been using (forever, it seems!) is from 2006. So....here we are with a new look that reflects 2012. Many thanks to Michael Mettler, photographer extraordinare, for taking this and other new photos. My new photo reflects the open dance of Mayan Dream Productions for 2013. My arms are wide open to embrace all of the possibilities for 2013. My hands are open to receive love, joy, strength from my music and from those who purchase and listen to it. Check out my home page for a new writing and a new pricing structure. October 1rst begins a special pricing for all CDs that brings in the New Year 2013. All CDs are $5.00 each plus shipping and handling. It's a tradition here at Mayan Dream Productions that my holiday thanks to all of you is reflected in a special, lower price. WOW it is already September 13

Image
How can this be! We are almost halfway through September. The air is beautiful this morning...crisp and clean and cool. The frogs and crickets are quiet and a calm has come over everything. This is my favorite time when all of the day is still potential and the excitement is in the unknown. What is going on in the life of a self-employed musician right now?? I realized that it's been a while since I have actually played a musical instrument. So, today I am picking up my guitar and my drums and PLAYING music. Time moves so quickly that I personally can get caught so up in the paperwork and other basic stuff of running a business that I forget what is the center of my creative life....actually playing music. My Kurzweil keyboard is going to feel like I have forgotten it. Poor thing! Does anyone else go this through this?? We are headed toward the change of the baktun in the Mayan long count. As you know, I am connected to the Maya through many personal experiences...

Life Continues

Image
September is on its way with its change of seasons.....announced with storms to bring the cooler weather. Birds begin to flock for their flights south. Spring and summer flowers give way to mums and asters and other flowers of the Autumn season. The air feels crisp and the light begins to change texture. Ancient/Future Symphony will be the featured album for the month of September. This is my favorite music of all the music that I have composed and recorded. And.....the total album was recorded within 8 hours of studio time! Obviously Ancient/Future Symphony already existed as part of me, and I simply had to open up and let the music flow. This blog writing is called Life Continues and Ancient/Future Symphony is a celebration of life beyond our life in physical form. We are spirit, we come into physical form, and we return to spirit. Our life force extends through generations. Everyone has a different idea of what "spirit" means, and what our life her...

Early morning....second try

Image
Well.....I just wrote an entire gorgeous Musings and blogspot deleted the entire thing before I could publish it. They are very sorry! So, obviously it wasn't anything that you were supposed to read. There is a lot of laughter coming from my office right now at 3:52AM! I am hearing the sound of a train whistle in the distance. This is one of my favorite sounds....maybe because it makes me want to hop on and travel and explore and find the next excitement. Ahhhhh..... Last evening I watched the closing ceremonies of the Olympics with total awe. They were spectacular in their creativity which pushed the edges of beauty in color and design and music and dance. I can only imagine the months and months of imagination poured out and the weekly (and then daily I'm sure) practice of thousands of people, who brought their time and talent without any financial reward but just the sheer joy of being a part of this glorious event. It was so beautiful and inspiring!! For...
